Field Heat Treatment Technician Training
To advance through the levels, you'll need to complete the preceding level and meet specific experience requirements.
- HT Level I (500 – 1,799 heat treatment related hours): Requires a minimum of 1,500 hours and six months of field experience.
- HT Level II (1,800 – 3,599 heat treatment related hours): Requires completion of Level I.
- HT Level III (3,600 – 5,399 heat treatment related hours): Requires completion of Level II.
- HT Level IV (5,400 – 7,200 heat treatment related hours): Requires completion of Level III and all hours/time as per the Collective Agreement.
Combustion Technician Training
This training is for technicians who want to specialize in combustion.
- Level I-C: Requires completion of the Field Heat Treatment Level I course. Technicians with prior experience and formal training can apply to challenge the Level I-C test.
- Level II-C: Requires completion of Level I-C and 1,000 hours of combustion-specific work. You'll need to provide a work experience logbook or an employer verification letter to prove your hours. Technicians with prior experience and formal training can also apply to challenge the Level II-C test.
Important Information
Here are a few key details to keep in mind regarding all training courses.
- Registration: Pre-registration is mandatory for all courses. Contact Adam Wu at adam@qcccanada.com or 780-488-3455 ext. 1 (office) or 780-886-8569 (cell) to register.
- Prerequisites: You must meet the required hours and time as per the Quality Control Agreement and be in good standing with your local before attending.
- Attendance: 100% attendance is required to be eligible for testing and advancement.
- Certification Exam: The Occupation Certification exam is held off-site. You must have all your hours, and time completed before taking the exam.
- Challenging the Exam: Members with six years of experience and 10,000 hours are eligible to challenge the certification exam. The fee is $450.00, and you can find more information and the application on the Trade Secrets website.
- Course Materials: All student manuals, handouts, and textbooks will be provided and are yours to keep.
- Class Times: Classes run from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise notified.
